Our client a leading entity in the retail industry is looking for a Financial Risk and Compliance Controller to join their team

REQUIREMENTS:

Tertiary qualification: Com/B. Compt accounting degree with at least SAICA articles completed.

Commercial experience after articles an advantage.

Capable of preparing/ reconciling accounts to the balance sheet, with a sound understanding of balance sheet reconciliations and month end journals.

Strong ability to formulate and implement effective internal controls in a retail environment.

A fair understanding of good corporate governance concepts and practices.

A fair understanding of risk and compliance.

Internal audit experience is an advantage.

Excellent report writing skills.

Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implement the risk compliance strategy and framework of the business.

Take full responsibility for controlling and testing internal controls and all compliance related matters of the operation with all standard operational control procedures (SOP’s) to mitigate all financial and compliance related risks.

Implementation and facilitation of controls needed to mitigate all risks identified.

Advise on the required modifications to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

Fraudulent practice prevention, elimination and reporting.

Reporting on General Ledger reconciliations done in line with the appropriate scoring system.

All SOP’s to be inspected and scored relative to the scoring system, actions expected from the Branch management team and Regional Executive and report on all findings (submit to Divisional Financial Executive, through the Financial Risk and Compliance Manager).

Monitor, prevent and report all material breaches in controls immediately.

Monthly meetings with Operations Managers to ensure corrective actions remain on track at all times as evidenced by (a) no surprises and (b) no unforeseen losses.

Monthly review meeting with Divisional Financial Manager to review effectiveness of control function and Ad hoc assignments as assigned by Divisional Financial Manager.

Ongoing communication and correspondence with the Financial Risk and Compliance Manager to ensure adherence to the risk compliance strategy and work plan.
